We ended up at Rose & Ivy somewhat unexpectedly after leaving a performance at the Sarasota Opera House early, and it turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant is right next door to the opera house, making it a particularly convenient spot before or after a performance. It was a Saturday night in downtown Sarasota, and we had no reservation, but we were in luck and got a nice table for two. Our server, Veronica, was wonderful. She gave us good recommendations on what to order and, for the first time I can remember, also gave us a recommendation on what *not* to order. We appreciated her candor! We went with mimosas and the pineapple roll sushi, and both were excellent. Veronica also encouraged us to visit the beautiful historic bar upstairs, which we were glad we did. The restaurant itself is much larger and more interesting than you might guess from the outside, with two dining rooms, two bars, and outdoor seating. The historic details, exposed brick, and lush ivy-covered exterior give the place plenty of character. Excellent food, friendly and refreshingly candid service, and a unique atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

We had a great experience at Rose & Ivy. The presentation of the food was beautiful, and everything we ordered was delicious. We chose to sit outside in the courtyard, which was comfortable and provided a lovely atmosphere for dinner. The service was excellent throughout our visit—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and we look forward to returning. Highly recommended!

I come to here a lot when I want a great meal. The lychee martini is shaken to perfection, the hamachi sushi roll is the freshest, brightest, most delicious roll I’ve ever had (my actual favorite roll here in Sarasota) and the hamachili appetizer was outstanding! If you like yellowtail, I HAVE TO recommend those two! Some other honorable mentions are the chophouse burger (best fries everrr) the vegetable udon and the kung pow shrimp. I’ve never had a meal here I didn’t like. I have to add the the upstairs floor (the speakeasy) is a hidden gem, beautiful and quaint, and if you ask (nicely) they will let you see the original art sketches on the walls from the beautiful history of this building. 10/10 for food, drinks, ambiance, service, and a little bit of history.

This place is an absolute hidden gem! We came for a girls’ night out and were treated to the full experience—live music upstairs, phenomenal service, and sushi that truly blew us away. Having lived in Japan for four years, I don’t say this lightly: the sushi here rivals some of the best I’ve ever had. Every detail was thoughtful, every dish beautifully crafted, and you can feel the passion behind the food. If you’re looking for incredible sushi and an unforgettable night out, this is the place.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rose & Ivy – Sarasota Our first visit to Rose & Ivy, and we were truly impressed. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Even though it was the coldest day of the year, the restaurant felt cozy and welcoming—exactly the kind of place you want to linger. The building itself is historically enchanting. Be sure to visit their website to read the fascinating background on the building—it adds an extra layer of appreciation to the experience. There are so many great options on the menu, it was hard to choose. We started with the Crispy Beef Spring Rolls and a Sushi roll. Both were outstanding, and we’re already looking forward to returning to try more appetizers. For our entrées, we had the Kung Pao Shrimp and the Korean Bone-In Pork Chop—both were incredibly flavorful and beautifully prepared. What really set the evening apart was the hospitality. The owner took time to visit with us, and the chef even gave us a behind-the-scenes tour, which was such a special and unexpected touch. A fascinating building, extremely delicious food, and exceptional customer service. We can’t wait to return.
